Mark A. Hewett

 Current Position: President of MidAmerican Energy Pipeline Group and President of Northern Natural Gas Date Assumed Current Position: May 2007 and August 2002, respectively Year Joined Northern: 2002 Previous Work Experience: Prior to joining Northern Natural Gas, Mark was employed by MidAmerican Energy Company from 1987 to 2002. He served in a number of management positions at MidAmerican Energy Company, most recently as vice president of energy trading. Education: Mark earned a B.S. in management science from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Outside Interests: Mark is a member of the NCAA’s Men’s College World Series board of directors. Mark enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. Family: Mark is a native of Iowa, is married and has four children.

Kirk L. Lavengood

 Current Position: Vice President of Business Development Date Assumed Current Position: January 2010 Year Joined Northern: 2003 Previous Work Experience: Kirk worked at MidAmerican Energy Company as director of short-term trading and as director of gas supply planning. Kirk also practiced law in Detroit with the law firm Kerr, Russell and Weber, PLC, before joining MidAmerican Energy Company. Prior to practicing law, Kirk spent nine years in various marketing and financial capacities with ANR Pipeline Company and ANR Storage Company. In 2010, he was named vice president of business development. Education: Kirk earned a J.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit and a B.S. in business from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. Outside Interests: Kirk likes to play golf, ski, read and travel.

Joseph M. Lillo

 Current Position: Vice President of Finance Date Assumed Current Position: August 2002 Year Joined Northern: 2002 Previous Work Experience: Joe was employed by MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company beginning in 1996 as manager of financial reporting, then as vice president and controller. Joe transferred to Northern Natural Gas after the holdings company’s purchase of Northern in August 2002. Prior to joining the holdings company, Joe was a senior associate with Coopers & Lybrand. Education: Joe earned a B.S. and an M.S. in accounting from Pace University in New York City. Outside Interests: Joe is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants. Family: Joe is a native of New York, is married and has four children.

Paul Maakestad

 Current Position: Vice President of Information Technology Date Assumed Current Position: January 2006 Year Joined Northern: 2003 Previous Work Experience: Paul has held a number of management positions with MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company subsidiaries and affiliates, including Northern Natural Gas, since joining the company in 1998. In April 2003, Paul transferred to Northern from MidAmerican Energy Company to assume the position of director of business applications after assisting in the project to separate Northern from the Enron estate. From 2000-2003, he served in information technology account management and applications management roles for CalEnergy and MidAmerican Energy Company. He was responsible for managing MidAmerican Energy Company’s year 2000 project from 1998-1999. Earlier, Paul held management and technical positions with nonprofit, governmental and private organizations located in central Iowa and San Francisco. Education: Paul received a B.A. in English from Iowa State University in Ames and has taken several graduate-level management courses. Outside Interests: Paul enjoys a variety of outdoor activities and is an avid reader. Family: Paul, an Iowa native, is married with four children.

Thomas A. Mertz

 Current Position: Vice President of Field Operations Date Assumed Current Position: April 2003 Year Joined Northern: 1979 Previous Work Experience: Tom has held various positions at Northern Natural Gas in research and development, facility planning, and operations. In 1996, Tom became director of operations of Northern’s Beatrice, Neb., region. In 2000, he became director of operations of Florida Gas Transmission’s Lafayette region and managed assets for EOTT. Education: Tom has a B.A. in business management from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. Outside Interests: Tom enjoys outdoor activities including hiking in the mountains and wilderness canoeing in Minnesota and Canada. Family: Tom is a native of Nebraska, is married and has three daughters.

Kent E. Miller

 Current Position: Vice President of Customer Service and Business Development Date Assumed Current Position: January 2010 Year Joined Northern: 1981 Previous Work Experience: Kent has held various management positions at Northern Natural Gas in engineering, facility planning, pricing and storage, and marketing in the Houston, Minneapolis and Omaha offices. In 2010, he was named vice president of customer service and business development. Education: Kent has a B.S. in civil engineering from Iowa State University in Ames. Outside Interests: Kent has held leadership and service positions in his local church and volunteers his time at a family counseling organization in Omaha, Neb. Family: Kent is a native of Iowa, is married and has two children.

Mary Kay Miller

 Current Position: Vice President of Regulatory and State Government Affairs Date Assumed Current Position: January 1996 Year Joined Northern: 1969 Previous Work Experience: Mary Kay has held various positions at Northern Natural Gas in regulatory, accounting and operations. In 1981, she joined regulatory affairs as a regulatory principal. Mary Kay has served in a number of management positions relating to general rate cases, tariff filings and certificate proceedings. In 1991, Mary Kay became vice president of regulatory affairs. She also assumed the regulatory responsibilities for Transwestern Pipeline from 1996 until 2002. Education: Mary Kay graduated from Commercial Extension School of Business in Omaha, Neb. Outside Interests: Mary Kay is a past chairperson of the rate committee of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America and currently is a board member of Mt. Michael Benedictine High School, the Ollie Webb Center and the American Heart Association. Mary Kay also enjoys playing golf and spending time at the lake. Family: Mary Kay is a native of Nebraska, is married and has one child.

J. Gregory Porter

 Current Position: Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary Date Assumed Current Position: August 2002 Year Joined Northern: 2001 Previous Work Experience: Prior to joining Northern Natural Gas, Greg was employed by MidAmerican Energy Company from 1989 to 2001 where he focused on energy trading, state and federal regulatory issues, and commercial law. Education: Greg earned his B.B.A. in finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He earned his J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law in Lincoln. Outside Interests: Greg is a member of the state bar of Iowa and the state bar of Nebraska. He is a member of the pastoral board at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha, Neb., and volunteers his time for the Salvation Army Night Watch Program. Family: Greg is a native of Nebraska, is married and has two children.

Royce Ramsay

 Current Position: Vice President of Operations Date Assumed Current Position: October 2002 Year Joined Northern: 2002 Previous Work Experience: Prior to joining Northern Natural Gas, Royce spent 20 years employed at Texas Gas Transmission Corporation, one of the Williams companies. Royce has 25 years of experience in the natural gas pipeline industry in various positions, primarily involving operations. Education: Royce earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind. Outside Interests: Royce enjoys golf and is a past United Way board member in Lafayette, La. Family: Royce is a native of Indiana, is married and has two children.

Adam Wright

 Current Position: Vice President of Marketing Date Assumed Current Position: January 2010 Year Joined Northern: 2003 Previous Work Experience: Adam was employed by MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company beginning in 1996 as a member of the independent power production team and has been employed by Northern Natural Gas since 2003. From 2003-2009, Adam served in various management roles within operations and was responsible for the development of Northern’s integrity management program for high-consequence areas and, most recently, led the completion of the Northern Lights expansion project. Education: Adam earned a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Outside Interests: Adam is a board member of the Hope Center for Kids and serves in various capacities within his local church. He enjoys physical activities, such as weight lifting and swimming, and likes to travel. Family: Adam is a Nebraska native, is married and has two children.
