Project Overview
The Northern Lights project is a multiphase pipeline expansion project designed to increase the capacity of Northern Natural Gas’ natural gas pipeline in its Market Area through 2026. This project offers an economical way to deliver the increased demands for clean, efficient natural gas to meet the growing energy demand for homes, hospitals, schools and industry. Construction Complete
The first phases of construction were completed October 31, 2007, and the facilities were put into service November 1, 2007, in time for the heating season. The project’s incremental gas volumes total 374,225 Dth/day for peak-day delivery. A small part of the project was constructed in 2008 and placed into service November 1, 2008. The expansion will serve increased markets for electric power generation, ethanol production, and agricultural, industrial, residential and commercial usage. The project consisted of construction of 58 miles of mainline, 28 miles of branch line, 12 new town border stations and modifications to 31 town border stations. The facilities are located in Iowa and Minnesota.
Northern continues to work with affected landowners to restore their property and compensate them for damages that may have occurred during construction. Northern appreciates the cooperation it has received from all affected parties, especially the landowners, during the construction of the Northern Lights project. Northern looks forward to working with any affected party on future construction projects, and is committed to providing excellent customer service in these endeavors.
