System Management Service (SMS)
System Management Service (SMS) is no-notice transportation service, which may be used in conjunction with firm transportation service. This service has a term that matches your corresponding contract for firm throughput. Even though shippers are expected to flow the volume of gas they nominate to our pipe, we know that occasionally this is not possible. SMS is a valuable tool to effectively manage delivery variances and minimize penalties associated with such variances.
Mid Pooling Service (MPS)
Pooling allows shippers to aggregate supplies to central points for easy and flexible delivery to their markets. Pooling also provides the markets with easy access to gas supplies. By using pooling, smaller gas packages can be brought together at a point to make a larger, more marketable package.
Northern's (Mileage Indicator District) MID Pooling Service is available to any customer for the pooling of gas within each MID for subsequent firm or interruptible transportation service by Northern. Each MID contains one paper pooling point which serves as a pool for all the receipt points located within the same MID. No transportation rate will be charged to a pooling customer for gas nominated from a receipt point for delivery to the pooling point in the same MID, pursuant to the
General Terms and Conditions
of Northern's
tariff
.
PowerPak
PowerPak is a combination of transportation, storage and balancing services. Each service is separately nominated and scheduled. The advantage of PowerPak is that all these services are under a single unit rate. It is an optional combining of services for administrative convenience. The PowerPak option is available at points with EFM with real time communication.
PowerPak is primarily designed for power producers. During the gas day, shippers nominate their anticipated usage. Northern, on behalf of the shipper, will schedule volumes during the last nomination cycle of the gas day to and from the shipper’s storage account (to the extent the deferred delivery services are available) to minimize or avoid imbalances that may otherwise accumulate during the day between the shippers scheduled volumes and the usage communicated on the EFM.
Advantages of adding PowerPak to your gas portfolio include:
Provides flexibility and convenience for power plant gas management.
Provides a service to minimize or avoid daily imbalances between the parties' scheduled volumes and the actual volumes utilized as of the last nomination cycle of the gas day.
Provides the structure needed to better plan for gas supplies and hedge gas supply costs.
